Kenai Task Force Summary
For those of you keeping up with the latest discussion regarding our king salmon returns, here is an excellent article that summarizes the Cook Inlet Task force meeting and proposals to date. It is important to remember that ultimately this all comes down to making sure we preserve what is arguably the most genetically unique king salmon run in the world. Lets hope the Board of Fisheries makes their sustainability the priority, not making sure the set net fishery is allowed to fish (regardless of how many sockeye are swimming by). By lowering escapement goals and managing the fishery on a razor’s edge we leave very little wiggle room in lean years. I strongly support task force member Kevin Delaney’s proposal as it is the only one that truly puts the fish first.
